I have known Glyph for over five years now. I am not a poetry enthusiast, however I just know Glyph is one of the best poets in the world. I am glad he is finally putting himself and his work out there for the world to hear and read. I had the opportunity to document the first poetry workshop led by journalist and poet Anthony Orozco at Barrio Alegria in the city's historic WRC Center for the Arts. You can read a few words from Gylph himself below about hosting his first workshop and see the rest of the images from the event. - Mateo Toro
“For months, I have been thinking about how I can share my passion of poetry beyond simply performing or submitting my work. I am an obsessive editor when it comes to my own poems and I am perpetually fascinated by how other poets approach the art form. My first workshop, held in the offices of Reading community arts group Barrio Alegria, was an exhibition in craftsmanship and an analysis of the poetic process.
I was taken aback. Firstly, by the amount of people who attended; I knew there was interest in poetry, but I did not think 20 people would attend. Secondly, by the candor and devotion of the participants. Poetry is an art of connecting spirits, bridging souls to one another. That night, I felt more connected to the community than ever before.
I am so appreciative of the energy, love and diligent work each person gave me. I hope I gave each of them something as precious as what they gave me. ”
